Use the real protected surface

Clean lab panels are useful for comparison, but they do not replace painted metal, coated plastic, polished sheet or another production surface.

Prepare more than one specimen so short dwell, aged dwell and heat exposure can be compared without reusing the same area.

Separate three different failures

Adhesive residue is transferred adhesive. A ghost mark can come from pressure, moisture or a temporary optical change. Surface damage means the protected coating or finish has changed.

Photograph the surface under the same light, record the removal method and agree on the acceptance standard before the test starts.
